Sedibelo Kgabo Mining (SKM) is a Proudly South African mining services company, with its roots in Lesetlheng, North West Province, South Africa. Lesetlheng is one of the many villages that is home to the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela (BBK), a tribe with a population of over 350 000 people living in 32 villages in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality.
The Bakgatla Ba Kgafela have lived in this area since the 1800s, when Kgosi Pilane settled his people at Mmasobudule on the Elands River. As the owner of the land on which several mines are located, BBK is involved in the mining sector mainly as an equity partner and also holds an equity interest in SKM. SKM was founded by the Matshego brothers, Tshiamo and Kgolagano in February 2021 and was awarded its first contract, a production drilling contract at Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (PPM) situated in the Pilanesberg, in the Bushveld Complex, 207km west of Johannesburg, in June 2021.
SKM took delivery of its first 3 down the hole drill rigs, Sandvik Leopard Dl650i DTH Drill Rigs, in December 2021, and commenced operations at PPM. The Company has 48 employees operating at the PPM site delivering high quality production drilling services to the mine. The Company operates with a flat management structure with clear responsibilities, and an emphatic focus on safety. As at the date of writing, after six months of operations, the Company has zero safety incidents including medical treatment cases.
SKM has created 96 new jobs as it prepares to take delivery of an additional 3 drill rigs. SKM has prioritised Training and Development for all employees with a particular emphasis on recruiting and training women into the drill rig operation and maintenance functions.
