Sedibelo Kgabo Mining (SKM) is an African global mining services company that specialises in drilling, blasting and smart mining solution. Our cutting-edge approach to mining is flipping the script on traditional ideas of broad-based empowerment in the technical and capital-heavy sectors of the industry.
SKM is a division of 2M Mining, a subsidiary of Sedibelo Investments Holding. 2M Mining provides end-to-end mining services for both surface and underground mining environments. Our exponential growth in just under 5 years is attributed to strategic partnership and collaboration with Sandvik, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and the Overlooked Group.
We are rooted in Lesetlheng, North West Province, South Africa. Lesetlheng is one of the many villages that is home to the Bakgatla Ba Kgafela (BBK), a tribe with a population of over 350 000 people living in 32 villages in the Moses Kotane Local Municipality. The Bakgatla Ba Kgafela have lived in this area since the 1800s, when Kgosi Pilane settled his people at Mmasobudule on the Elands River. As the owner of the land on which several mines are located, BBK is involved in the mining sector mainly as an equity partner and also holds an equity interest in SKM.
SKM was awarded its first contract, a production drilling contract at Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (PPM) situated in the Pilanesberg, in the Bushveld Complex, 207km west of Johannesburg, in June 2021.
SKM was awarded the production drilling contract for Tharisa Minerals’ core asset, in October 2024. Tharisa Minerals Mine is situated on the western edge of the Bushveld Complex.

SKM, founded in February 2021 by Tshiamo and Khuli Matshego, aims to enrich the environment and communities in which we operate, by creating sustainable job opportunities and supporting women in the mining industry. We prioritise the recruitment and training of highly skilled operators and mechanics, and we invest in state-of-the-art technology to ensure a capable workforce and optimal productivity at competitive prices.
SKM innovates
SKM has grown from a start-up to a leading drilling and blasting services provider in less than five years. We use modern equipment, cutting-edge technology, real-time monitoring, with a focus on safety. In December 2021, SKM received its first three Sandvik Leopard DI650i DTH drill rigs, marking a significant milestone. Our on-site team is dedicated to providing excellent production drilling services that meet the mine's quality and safety standards.

Sedibelo Kgabo Mining (SKM) takes delivery of three Sandvik DI650i drill rigs | 3 August 2022
TRAILBLAZING mining services provider Sedibelo Kgabo Mining (SKM) has taken delivery of three additional drill rigs, doubling its capacity and positioning it to become the dominant production drilling operator at mid-tier producer Pilanesberg Platinum Mines (PPM)’s East Pit operation. The new rigs, purchased from Sandvik Mining RSA (Pty) Ltd, means that the mining company based in the village of Lesethleng, in the North-West, will have the capacity to drill in excess of 60 000 metres a month. SKM is tearing up conventional wisdom on broad-based empowerment in technical and capital intensive sectors of the mining industry, demonstrating that not only can local procurement work but that communities don’t need to be left out of the proceeds.
